From Driver Monitoring to Driver Engagement
The talk will give an overview of proper techniques for engaging inattentive drivers. DMS will only be effective if the engagement techniques are properly utilized to draw driver’s attention back to the road. The nature and severity of inattention can vastly vary from one driver to another and currently, the alerts become source of distraction and annoyance themselves. A combination of human subject testing and new design thinking techniques are needed to develop next generation HMI specifically driver monitoring systems.
