This presentation will show the need for a standardized asymmetrical high-speed connection, which is optimized for automotive sensors used in future SW-defined vehicles. The criteria for such a data link are low complexity, low power consumption, low heat dissipation, ethernet connectivity and low costs. In addition, it will motivate the necessity for a highly integrated solution of sensor technology and communication technology to seamlessly integrate sensors into an “All IP Car”. The ASAML (Automotive SerDes Alliance Motion Link) for example, offers in its next 2nd generation (ASAML 2.0) a potential, open industry solution for SerDes technology with an optimized seamless transmission into the Ethernet network. This standard combines the benefits out of two worlds, the lower complexity of SerDes data links and the connectivity to Ethernet. Thus ASAML 2.0 is creating the basis for future sensor networks and is a key enabler for SW-defined vehicles.
