Validating perception is the toughest part of ensuring autonomous vehicle safety. This talk will explain why: • Road testing should be used more for data collection than for testing • A layered approach to simulation can provide more cost-effective validation • Sensor-level fault injection can reduce the brittleness inherent in machine learning approaches
