Digital mirrors are replacing traditional rearview and side mirrors by using exterior-mounted cameras to display views on in-vehicle digital screens. These systems offer significant benefits, such as improved clarity in low-light conditions and wider-angle visibility. Despite these advantages, the new experience can be unfamiliar and challenging for many drivers to adopt. However, integrating information from a driver monitoring system can significantly improve these digital mirror systems, making them more user-friendly and helping them to bridge the gap between the old and new driving experience.

This presentation will cover:

  • Benefits and drawbacks of current digital mirror technology for passenger cars
  • How DMS signals can help mimic some of the reflective properties of traditional mirrors
  • Obtaining the 3D estimation information necessary for augmenting the mirror image through monocular depth estimation.
  • How augmenting the image in digital mirrors improves the user experience.
