Car safety is improved through restraint systems and airbags. Unfortunately, under certain circumstances, these safety features can harm occupants more than the accident itself. To address this issue, it’s crucial for the vehicle to recognize the size, weight, and body posture of a person at the time of impact. A promising solution involves using a camera and radar in a sensor fusion approach. This not only enhances in-vehicle safety but also reduces the need for other sensors. In this presentation, we’ll discuss the possibilities of sensor fusion and the edge cases it covers, which cannot be adequately addressed by a single sensor alone.
