How to improve LIDAR performance with optical component analysis

Event: AutoSens Brussels
| Published: September 2020
By examining several optical components and how their characteristics influence light transmission and collection, optimized design outcomes can be achieved for LiDAR systems based on time-of-flight. Lasers, lenses and bandpass filters are key elements in the design of these systems and each have important characteristics. Operating temperature shifts, light ray angle shifts and manufacturing tolerances must be analyzed to ensure the system will perform under all specified conditions. Poor optical performance of a LiDAR system can be avoided when these components are properly matched together in the design phase. Some common values for each component will be discussed and two examples will be given to illustrate these issues.
