Next year, NCAP safety ratings will include automated emergency braking (AEB) for pedestrians during reversing manoeuvres to improve pedestrian safety. Today, backup (i.e. rear-view) cameras use an image signal processor (ISP) to convert raw bayer to RGB for human viewing and send the video to a center display. OEMs want to use this existing camera hardware for detecting pedestrians to meet the NCAP ratings and enable additional functions (i.e. parking assist). We present our work on an in-camera processing solution to detect multiple pedestrians and estimate their depth
