The nonlinear event of the pandemic resulted in a supply shortage of semiconductors for the car industry, because production capacities of semiconductor fabs all over the world shifted towards consumer electronics. In consequence, car manufacturers faced severe challenges up to the standstill of production lines due to, at that time, brittle supply chains. It was thus necessary for car manufacturers to change the order behavior of electronic components. This presentation will give the audience some insights into the semiconductor management for the category in-vehicle-networking at BMW and will detail the options and rationale behind harmonizing and standardizing the switch configuration.
