Lab tests are crucial for the efficient homologation of SAE Level 3 vehicles. Unlike traditional road/test track methods, digital homologation requires ISO 26262-certified processes. This talk highlights how hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test benches, ISO 26262-certified simulation software, and sensor models address this challenge. High-fidelity models for camera, radar, lidar, and ultrasonic sensors, including real-time GPU-based radar and camera simulation, are discussed. Testing must extend from component and domain levels to system level, integrating all sensors and electronic control units (ECUs). HIL test benches enable lab testing of real ECUs with recorded or simulated data, considering the entire ECU network (CAN, Ethernet, FlexRay, SerDes). Sensor simulation ranges from geometric to physics-based raw data models. The synchronization of sensor and bus data is essential and requires significant computing power. The talk also covers physics-based sensor simulation software, real-time ray tracing, and integration of Tier2 sensor supplier models to protect intellectual property.
