As vehicles evolve into more intelligent and occupant-aware environments, in-cabin sensing is becoming a key enabler of safety and personalized comfort. This session explores how Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radar technology supports a wide range of human-centric features, such as posture detection, micro-movement monitoring, and gesture-based interaction, without relying on cameras or visible light. Focus will be given to Child Presence Detection (CPD), where UWB, enhanced by AI algorithms, offers improved detection reliability under varying conditions.

In addition to in-cabin use, the presentation will briefly introduce how new UWB standards, such as IEEE 802.15.4ab with BLE-assisted Multi-Millisecond Sensing (MMS), extend UWB’s capabilities in vehicle access applications. These advancements enable secure, long-range proactive user interaction, even in challenging RF environments.

Attendees will gain insight into system-level trade-offs, antenna configurations, and how UWB can serve as a unified platform for both comfort and safety in next-generation vehicles.
