Today it is hard for drivers to truly trust L2+ V driver assist solutions because of the many limitations that still exist. Some of those limitations include false alarms that cause the vehicle to make unnecessary and unexpected stops because the vehicle detects phantom objects or ignores stationary objects such as emergency vehicles parked on the side of the road. A next generation vehicle that is equipped with basic radar has certain tradeoffs that compromise safety, which may include choosing between azimuth and elevation resolution (and the choice can become if there is an obstacle ahead or a bridge that can be driven under.) As we saw, relying on vision only doesn’t work effectively because you do not have a sensor that operates in all-weather and lighting conditions for free space mapping. Since low resolution radar brings this predicament to the table, most ADAS solutions rely mainly on vision-based sensors. In this session, Ram Machness, Chief Business Officer at Arbe will explain how these challenges can be resolved via a high resolution 4D Imaging Radar. He will detail how 4D Imaging Radar can map the environment to understand the path, avoid dynamic and static obstacles, and track hundreds of objects. The high channel count enables high resolution in both azimuth and elevation without false alarms and the higher sensitivity of the solution can detect boundaries of objects, detecting VRU and small obstacles while eliminating the issue of phantom braking.
