We describe a new way to make high resolution, uncooled microbolometers that can be manufactured at the lowest possible cost with high production volume capacity. In stark contrast to existing methods, our microbolometers are built on Gen 3.5 glass plates (620mm x 750mm) that are 14X larger in area than the typical 200mm Silicon wafers that are used in conventional production today. This coupled with the extremely low cost of fabrication per unit substrate area enjoyed by the flat panel display industry provides us a formidable cost advantage which translates to prices and volume capacity that are well matched to the automotive market and other commercial applications. We will provide an overview of the architectural differences in the way we build these sensors as well as their unique manufacture and discuss their importance in addressing not just the ADAS market but other pressing applications that are equally price and capacity sensitive.
