In this presentation the different kinds of flat optics will be described with their pros and cons. It will be explained how they can be used in combination with other optical elements and how they can significantly improve the actual optical systems while decreasing the bill of materials.

Their use in different types of industries will be presented, and a timeline will be established showing how close we are from the acceptance of these new optical elements in the environment of the automotive industry.
