The rapid growth in the number of cameras for ADAS and displays for infotainment applications has made video connectivity critical in automotive systems. With over 25 Global Automotive OEMs in production for nearly two decades, Analog Devices Inc’s GMSLTM technology is the de facto standard in video connectivity. GMSL is broadly adopted across the global automotive ecosystem.
Driven by the need to integrate GMSL in cameras, cost, supply resiliency, and speed to market, across the ecosystem, ADI decided to open GMSL as an industry standard. This is enabled via “OpenGMSL Association” – a new organization owned and promoted by industry leaders including Qualcomm and Sony.
Given the broad adoption of GMSL, enabling backward compatibility via OpenGMSL is critical. OpenGMSL will seed the ecosystem with the specifications and IP for members to implement past/current generations of GMSL.
The future generations of OpenGMSL will be developed in a collaborative manner like comparable standards organizations following a RAND IPR policy.
With zero market adoption risk, OpenGMSL’s success is assured. The OpenGMSL Association invites the broader ecosystem to join and lead the future of automotive video links.
