Automotive cameras often blur in challenging lightning environments when under motion, translating to poor visual data for computer vision algorithms. This poses an issue for vehicles as they transition to autonomous operation and for ADAS, notably when the vehicle is operating in non-nominal environments, such as in low light, solar glare, and when a wide dynamic range is present, such as when entering and exiting tunnels. Despite the advances in LiDAR to offset these shortcomings, visual imaging remains desirable for scenarios such as obstruction classification and optical character recognition. This talk discusses new perception systems for real-time, fast-motion, optical imagery no matter the environment, leveraging single photon perception.
