Technology is a critical component to transportation and planning for the future. With the Department of Transportation’s mission is to deliver the world’s leading transportation system, serving the American people and economy through the safe, efficient, sustainable, and equitable movement of people and goods – innovation is a core value of the DOT’s work. Technology and innovation advance our strategic goals by building transformative solutions in safety, economy strength and global competitiveness, job creation, equity, and climate. Technologies like connectivity, automation, advanced sensing and AI can help the nation achieve its Vision Zero goals to eliminate road fatalities, among other goals.
This discussion will overview some of the agency’s research and priorities, discuss discretionary grant opportunities to fund these advancements, how the FHWA is working with other agencies and partners to support deployment, and how critical partnerships and public engagement are to the public and private sector advancing technology and innovation.
