Unlocking All Weather Eyes for AVs: Terahertz Vision Technology

USA

Presentation
Autonomous vehicles are usually tested in perfect conditions, but most sensing systems still struggle in rain, fog, and snow. Teradar is tackling this significant issue for safe AV deployment with Summit, a new type of terahertz (THz) automotive sensor introduced at CES 2026. It is built on a solid-state Modular Terahertz Engine with custom TX, RX, and processing chips. Summit offers long-range, high-resolution, all-weather perception that is vital for L3-L5 autonomy. It can identify closely spaced objects, keep clarity at a distance, and use Doppler to measure relative speed. These abilities surpass those of traditional radar and lidar. With eight major OEMs actively testing Level 3, Teradar is increasingly seen as key to future “eyes-off” strategies. After coming out of stealth, securing a $150M Series B, and launching Summit, CEO Matt Carey can discuss how to redefine sensor performance, overcome old limitations, scale new platforms, and the influence of THz vision on the future of autonomous mobility.
