Alexis Lluis Gomez

Alexis has experience in multiple disciplines in the emerging field of image processing, from academia to commercial R&D, with a proven history of working in the semiconductor industry. Currently he is Technical Director – Imaging at Arm, responsible for the image signal processor (ISP) architecture and the Imaging technology research team. Alexis joined Arm in May 2016 after spending the previous 6 years with Apical, where he was responsible for Image Quality and R&D of advanced image processing models, computational algorithms and tuning for end-to-end ISP performance. Prior to joining Apical he was a researcher at Loughborough University where he studied for his PhD in Vision and Imaging Systems, and holds a BSc and MSc in computer science.

Alexis Vander Biest is Senior Manager in the automotive division of Sony Semiconductor Group. The company mission is to bring cutting-edge 2D/3D sensing technologies to the automotive world. As part of their imaging portfolio, Sony offers a comprehensive line-up of high performance and fully integrated SPAD sensors designed to unlock the full potential of today’s lidars.

Short bio (100 words max): Amit Mizrahi has held multiple industry positions in the field of photonic integrated circuits (PIC). He is currently the Technical Lead for LiDAR in the Silicon Photonics Product Division at Intel Corporation, in Santa Clara, CA. Most recently, he managed PIC R&D at Lumentum Operations LLC, Transmission Business Unit in San Jose, CA, with a focus on coherent transmitters and receivers. He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.

Andras Palffy

Andras Palffy

Dr. Andras Palffy, MSc from Cranfield, UK, is a machine perception expert from Hungary.
He worked at a computer vision startup acquired by Verizon before pursuing a PhD at TU Delft, specialising in Radar-Based perception for Intelligent Vehicles.
During his PhD, he recognized that while radars have been used for years in the automotive industry for functions like cruise control and emergency braking, their full potential remained unexplored, and can only be achieved through dedicated radar-focused AI solutions.
That is why with two fellow scholars (Balazs Szekeres and Srimannarayana Baratam), he founded Perciv AI, a machine perception software company providing next-generation, AI-driven perception solutions for radars and sensor fusion.

After starting his career at BMW in 2007, Armin joined AVL Software & Functions in 2011 being responsible for Vehicle and Hybrid Controls Software. From 2015 to 2018, he led the ADAS / AD Controls and Software Department at AVL before joining Zenuity from 2018 to 2020. Since June 2020, Armin is back at AVL, taking over the Product Management for DGT Perception Software and managing the newly founded AVL Sensor Lab at Roding/Bavaria.

Bart Placklé

Bart Placklé holds a Master of Science degree and a postgraduate degree in telecommunications from the University of Hasselt and imec. He also obtained a postgraduate degree in executive business economics from KU Leuven.
In 2004, Bart joined Intel to create the company’s in-vehicle infotainment business. As chief architect and later automotive CTO, he led the development of five generations of high-performance automotive solutions, driving Intel’s automotive segment to become a multibillion-dollar business. In 2023, Bart Placklé returned to imec, assuming the role of vice president of automotive technologies. In this capacity, he is leading the development of cutting-edge solutions that will shape the future of mobility.

Bernd Jähne is senior professor at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) and the Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) of Heidelberg University. From 2008 to 2017 he was coordinating director of the Heidelberg Collaboratory for Image processing (HCI), an industry-on-campus project of Heidelberg University and from 2008 to 2016 deputy director of the IWR. He is also founder and chair of the Heidelberg Image Processing Forum since 1995, chair of the EMVA 1288 standardization group since 2008, and vice president of the European Machine Vision Association since 2021. Christoph Gollob studied automotive engineering in Graz. Since 2010 he is working in the E/E environment at BMW starting in testing of chassis and ADAS ECUs and then taking part in developing the BMW platform for automated driving gaining insight into fail operational systems. Since 2021 he is in the department for networking technologies as a network architect and responsible for safe time synchronization. Another part of his work is the investigation in future high speed in vehicle network solutions, mainly driven by imaging sensors and video data in general, their demands, and the possible technologies.

Duong Van Nguyen

Dr. Duong-Van Nguyen is the Head of ADAS at Panasonic Automotive Systems Europe (PASEU) based in Germany. He is recognized as the Senior IEEE, and a member of IEEE standard P2020.
Dr. Nguyen has been a pioneer and leading scientist in the fields of ADAS, Autonomous Driving, Robotics & Machine Learning, where he has published 1 book, 9 patents and a number of journals and conference papers. His research group at Panasonic demonstrated the world-first level 4-autonomous parking at ITS World Congress 2021, and the state-of-the art of 3D Sensing and Parking in CES 2020, CES 2021, and CES 2022.
Dr. Nguyen and his PASEU team received three Research and Innovation Grants CARAMEL (2019), CPSoSAware (2020), and TRUSTEE(2022) by the European Research Council.
Before, he worked as R&D Manager at Hyundai Mobis (Germany), and as Research Engineer at Valeo (Ireland), after his Ph.D graduation in Robotics from University of Siegen (Germany, 2009-2013).

Eric Richter

Eric Richter has 15 years of experience in the field of sensor fusion and a strong passion for automated driving. His roots can be found in academia, researching environmental models and sensor fusion. He later became a co-founder of BASELABS and the company’s CTO. In this role, he was responsible for developing BASELABS’ sensor fusion libraries, which allow for efficient, modular, and scalable development of sensor fusion systems for ADAS and au-tomated driving. He currently is Director of Technology Innovations at BASELABS, providing a strong market perspective and deriving new requirements and use cases for the BASELABS product portfolio concerning sensor fusion and automated driving.

Florens Gressner

Florens Greßner is co-founder and CEO of neurocat, a Berlin-based startup offering safety validation solutions for ADAS/AV perception components. A mathematician with a focus on statistics and optimization, he founded neurocat to transfer the abstract mathematics of academia to applied purposes in the field of Machine Learning testing and quality assurance.
His work has contributed to numerous industry solutions in risk assessment, robustness, and interpretability of AI systems across use-cases. Currently Florens and neurocat are again transferring knowledge: from themselves to a SaaS toolkit that ensures coverage of the ODDs, scenes, and data required to deploy safe mobility perception functions.

François-Pierre received his Electronics Engineer Diploma – from the French Grenoble Institute of Technology in 2004.
After a few years in Academics – French South African Institute of Technology in Pretoria -, and Electronics Engineering Consultancy – CSIE – , he joined the intoPIX team in 2012. Initially involved in customer supports, he gained in depth knowledge in the company’s main core business: Wavelet codecs and their latency/quality optimization. These include the Digital Cinema and Broadcast standard JPEG 2000, the internally developed TICO proprietary codec and the recently standardized JPEG XS.

Wilfried Philips, he is currently involved with automotive-specific perception research using sensor fusion, video quality improvement, exposure fusion, machine learning and HDR-based analytics. Jann-Eve Stavesand heads dSPACE Consulting and supports customers worldwide on defining test strategies for complex E/E systems and on overcoming challenges in development of safety-critical systems.
He was involved in the development of ISO 26262:2018 with a focus on software and processes and is currently involved in the standardization of Safety Of The Intended Functionality (SOTIF). Dr Laurent Chanas has been working in image quality assessment and improvement for more the 20 years. He is now head of the image quality assessment solution, named Analyzer, at DXOMARK IMAGE LABS. Previously Laurent worked at DXO Labs, developing image processing algorithms (several international patents) and managed the test and measurement laboratory. Laurent holds a master’s degree from “Ecole Nationale de l’Electronique et ses Applications” as well as a PhD thesis in Image Processing.

Ludovic Rota is the product marketing manager in the automotive sensing division at onsemi. In his current role, he defines the functional safety and cybersecurity requirements for future automotive image sensor products. Prior to his work in product marketing, he was a functional safety expert on the Global Functional Safety Team at onsemi. He holds certifications from OMNEX and TUV for both Functional Safety and Cybersecurity. Before joining onsemi, he worked as a functional safety assessor for power management products at NXP. With over 20 years of experience in the automotive semiconductor industry, Ludovic has held various technical leadership, project management, and assessor positions in Belgium, France, and the US.

Graduated in Physics at the Federico II of Naples in 2010 with a specialization on Solid-State Physics, Optics and Optoelectronic, Ghezzi made his start in the Automotive sector where to his previous optical skills, he added experience both in industrial processes and in the use of Silicon-based sensors in the Automotive/Industrial field. Prior, he worked at Dream Chip Technologies as an Automotive SoC architect and HW-SW-CoDesigner and camera-based rear mirror systems. Norman Koren became interested in photography while growing up near the George Eastman House photographic museum in Rochester, NY. He received his BA in physics from Brown University (1965) and his Masters in physics from Wayne State University (1969). He worked in the computer storage industry simulating digital magnetic recording systems and channels for disk and tape drives from 1967-2001. He founded Imatest LLC in 2003 to develop software and test charts to measure the quality of digital imaging systems.

Oliver has spent over 25 years in the Automotive and Telecoms industries where he gained experience in many roles such as system and network design, development and integration, IoT proof-of-concepts, new feature and product commercialization, business development, technical pre-sales activities, account management, team management, project and product management. Oliver joined Immervision as a Product Manager in the Automotive and Transportation space, where his extensive professional experience supports the growth of our Automotive product offering. Oliver holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and several certifications in scrum/agile, product management and team leadership.

Patrice Roulet-Fontani

Patrice is co-founder of Immervision where he leads the engineering team, contributes to IP growth and the adoption of Immervision’s technology by global corporations. He has overseen the integration of wide-angle imaging technology in numerous industry verticals. He is an IEEE Senior Member who has spoken at various conferences and co-authored multiple publications and patents and holds a master’s degree in image processing in computer graphics.

Pier Paolo Porta

Pier Paolo Porta is responsible for Ambarella’s Automotive European Business Unit as well as stereovision-related product marketing. In July 2005, he received the Dr. Ing. (Master) degree in Electronic Engineering from Università di Parma, Italy. In 2005 he also joined VisLab, the Artificial Vision research group at the Università di Parma, where he earned a PhD in Information Technology in 2010. In 2009, Porta was one of the founding associates of VisLab srl, and from 2010 he was part of the Board of Governors of the company until it was acquired by Ambarella in 2015. Porta’s background is in autonomous driving and ADAS, and he is focused on stereovision, sensor fusion, and traffic sign recognition.

Pierrick Boulay

As part of the Photonics, Sensing & Display division at Yole Développement (Yole), Pierrick Boulay works as Market and Technology Analyst in the fields of Solid State Lighting and Lighting Systems to carry out technical, economic and marketing analysis. Pierrick has authored several reports and custom analysis dedicated to topics such as general lighting, automotive lighting, LiDAR, IR LEDs, UV LEDs and VCSELs. Prior to Yole, Pierrick has worked in several companies where he developed his knowledge on general lighting and on automotive lighting. In the past, he has mostly worked in R&D department for LED lighting applications. Pierrick holds a master degree in Electronics.

Prof Valentina Donzella

Dr Valentina Donzella received her BSc (2003) and MSc (2005) in Electronics Engineering from University of Pisa and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italy), and her PhD (2010) in Innovative Technologies for Information, Communication and Perception Engineering from Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. In 2009, she was a visiting graduate student at McMasterUniversity (Hamilton, ON, Canada) in the Engineering Physics department. She is currently Associated Professor, Head of the Sensors area in the Intelligent Vehicles group at WMG, University of Warwick, UK. She has been awarded a Royal Academy ofEngineering Industrial Fellowship on camera sensors and she is the lead of the workpackage on sensor modelling in the EU project ROADVIEW; Before joining WMG, she was a MITACS and SiEPIC postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC, Canada), in the Silicon Photonics group. She is first author, co-author, and last author of several journal papers on top tier optics and sensors journals. Her research interests are: LiDAR, Intelligent Vehicles, integrated optical sensors, noise factors, sensor fusion, and silicon photonics. Dr Donzella is Full College member of EPSRC and Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy.

Prof. Alexander Braun

Alex has over 20 years of experience with optical technologies. During his position as optical designer at Kostal (Tier 1) he was responsible for the optical quality of the camera ADAS, designing MTF test benches for all purposes. As a Professor for Physics at the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf he is now looking at all the questions surrounding optical quality from a scientific point of view, and will share his enthusiasm for optics and cameras with you.
