Since 2010, camera-based ECU testing has evolved from OTA approaches using monitors toward direct injection methods that bypass image generation or replace the camera. Today, customers can choose from many RAW data injection vendors, but requirements have expanded significantly. Beyond stable HIL operation, testing now includes deliberate fault injection, recorded and augmented data, and coverage of both exterior and interior sensing. Production ECU software, safety and security functions, realistic exposure control, photorealism, and low latency are essential. In parallel, IPG Automotive has continuously evolved its injection solutions, culminating in SensInject, tightly integrated into the CarMaker ecosystem for consistent ADAS and AD testing across multiple cameras and ECUs.
