Modern vehicles are rapidly transitioning toward centralized and software-defined architectures, enabled by high-performance computing and continuous software updates. While these advances unlock new capabilities, they also introduce fundamental safety challenges, as traditional Functional Safety (FuSa) practices were originally developed for static, hardware-centric systems. This presentation explores how Functional Safety principles are evolving to address the realities of dynamic, software-driven vehicle platforms. It discusses practical system-level approaches, architectural considerations, and best practices for integrating safety into centralized and software-defined vehicle architectures. The session reinforces that, even in this new paradigm, Functional Safety remains the foundation of trust, enabling innovation while ensuring safe and reliable intelligent mobility.
