Head of the Intelligent Mobility Group
Dr. Douglas MacKenzie joined Mobis in 2016 and is head of the Intelligent Mobility group at the Mobis technical center for the Americas. The IM group focuses on ADAS components and applications, in-cabin monitoring, and infotainment displays. A key effort is to transfer core ADAS technologies from Korea, make localization enhancements to match the US auto industry, and promote and support local sales. The second is to identify market opportunities, locally develop solutions, promote the innovations to US automakers, and transfer technologies back to Korea for domestic commercialization. The DDREM system that monitors driver drowsiness and distraction to prevent accidents is one example of the IM group identifying a market need, building a POC, winning production awards, and now launched in vehicles across the globe.
Prior to joining Mobis, Dr. MacKenzie managed the Michigan section of BAE Systems’ combat vehicle software group, supporting the Bradley and AMPV platforms. Previously, he founded and led Mobile Intelligence Corporation for 17 years, conducting research and development in autonomous ground vehicles and robotics for military applications, working extensively with DARPA, ONR, and TARDEC. Dr. MacKenzie has a Ph.D. from the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and completed his MS in Computer Science and BS in Electrical Engineering at Michigan Technological University.
