Thomas Wilson, VP Automotive, Graphcore joins AutoSens in Brussels to present at the conference on “Enabling Volume Deployment of the Autonomous Vehicle with a new AI Processor.” Tom has over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, the last 8 years in Advanced Driver Assistance and Autonomous Vehicles. At Graphcore, Tom is VP Automotive driving the automotive business for Graphcore’s unique AI processing architecture. Tom has a Bachelor of Science and a PhD from Carleton University Ottawa Canada. Tom provides us with some great insight into her interesting career path, challenges with cost-efficient high-resolution sensing and how to build an acoustic guitar.

Our chat with Dominique Bonte (Managing Director, ABI Research) included learning more about his role at the AutoSens Awards this year,  the reason for his holistic attitude towards problem solving, the double challenge for HD Maps in Driverless Vehicles and his search for main trends at AutoSens 2018.

Catherine Enright, Valeo Expert and Algorithm Team Manager at Valeo Vision Systems takes to the stage at AutoSens in Brussels this September to deliver a cutting-edge presentation on “Visual SLAM and localisation.” Catherine’s current research at Valeo focuses on Visual SLAM with an emphasis on the robust and reliable localisation required for autonomous driving.

Velodyne LiDAR are joining the AutoSens family in Brussels 2018. We caught up with Erich Smidt, Managing Director at Velodyne Europe GmbH. He gave us some great insight into Velodyne LiDAR and their future, the next big opportunity for LiDAR and the importance of simulation for testing and validation.

Kübra Zehra Kaşıkçı is an Automated Driving Researcher, Environmental & Engineering Psychology at the University of Surrey. She is presenting at AutoSens this September in Brussels, delivering the concept of “Developing High Fidelity and Ecologically Valid Simulation Models for Conditionally Automated Vehicles.” We caught up with Kübra ahead of the Brussels conference to find out more about her recent work, international environmental psychology platform EΨch (or ePSIch) and what she is most looking forward to about joining AutoSens.

With our next AutoSens on the horizon we took the opportunity to catch up with Arm. Arm returns again to support AutoSens, and we are excited to have them at the world-leading vehicle perception conference in Brussels. They gave us some interesting insights into the looming end of Moore’s law, their approach to the open vs closed architecture debate and their excitement about the widespread future use of properly capable Machine Learning.

We took time out to chat to one of our speakers at AutoSens – Pier Paolo Porta, Business Development Senior Manager at Ambarella. We delved further into his past and current life outside work, and heard all about some of his recent challenges and experiences, including their car “BRAiVE” which drove without human intervention in real traffic in the morning of July 12, 2013.
