1. As a Senior Staff Functional Safety Engineer at Rivian, could you share some highlights of your experience in ensuring safety within automotive electrical systems? 

As the world moves towards developing software-defined vehicles with advanced sensor technologies to meet higher safety standards, architecting an electrical system poses a significant challenge. Establishing next-generation zonal architecture platforms to attain elevated safety levels while minimizing costs and complexity is crucial for success. This transformation is reshaping how a streamlined electrical and network architecture can achieve exceptional safety and redundancy levels. 

2. What specific areas of expertise do you bring to the AutoSens advisory board, and how do you envision contributing to the advancement of automotive sensing technologies through this role? 

I view this opportunity as a significant step towards establishing a benchmark safety development culture in the automotive industry through collaborative efforts. Drawing upon my extensive experience in autonomous vehicle technology and smart sensor design for building SDVs, I aim to assist the community in addressing technological challenges associated with the adoption of new technologies, with a specific focus on achieving safety through the application of SOTIF methodologies and first principles. Leveraging my expertise in functional safety, I intend to facilitate discussions on various safety topics by engaging relevant experts in panel discussions. 

I would actively engage in disseminating technological updates through papers, presentations, and discussions. This initiative would facilitate engineers and industry professionals in staying abreast of the most recent advancements and optimal methodologies. I would actively participate in and  lead workshops and training sessions dedicated to the effective implementation and optimization of sensing technologies. These sessions would be designed to elevate the competencies and expertise of professionals operating in this domain. 

3. With the AutoSens USA conference coming up in Detroit in May, what are you most excited about in terms of discussions, presentations, and networking opportunities? 

Autosens provides discussions and presentations that cover the latest advancements in automotive technology, such as the development of more sophisticated sensors for autonomous vehicles, improvements in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), and breakthroughs in electric vehicle technology.  It’s a platform to showcase innovation , share new technology insights through panel discussions and presentations. I am excited for exchanging ideas, exploring new technologies, and building relationships that can drive industry-wide advancements. 

4. In your opinion, why are forums like AutoSens essential for engineers working in the automotive industry, and how do they facilitate innovation and collaboration within the field? 

The automotive industry is undergoing rapid evolution, particularly in areas such as electric vehicles (EVs) and autonomous driving. Autosens offers insights into the latest trends, technologies, and research, enabling engineers to remain abreast of industry advancements. Additionally, it facilitates the establishment of a network that can foster new opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations, all of which are crucial for maintaining competitiveness and progressing in the dynamic automotive sector.
