The City: Why Detroit?
Detroit is the centre of the American automotive industry, and despite some challenging times in recent history, the region is under a period of strong regeneration and investment. Detroit has the dual advantage of its history and future potential. Over the last 5 years we’ve seen a real growth in innovation, start ups and new technology from the area supported by initiatives such as TechStars.
These recent developments combined with the scale of the existing automotive expertise in the region makes it the perfect melting pot for discussions driving the future of automotive product development. And the cars, of course, where better for a petrol head to spend time away from home! There’s a strong spirit here into Detroit that we are tap into, as well as hopefully bringing a little AutoSens inspiration of our own, and we’ve felt very welcomed each time we’ve visited.
We work closely with local OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, many of who are involved in the Advisory Board as well as building relationships with local and regional government, societies and industry associations, and other stakeholders in the area.
The American debut of AutoSens was hosted at the brand new M1 Concourse development, near to Pontiac, the perfect venue for petrol heads and self-driving experts alike, 2018 saw us taking over the Michigan Science Centre inspiring curious minds to discover, explore and appreciate science, technology, engineering and math. The event attracts an international audience, Detroit has excellent transport links for both US and global travellers.
Detroit isn’t just the home of car making in the US, it’s also the home of Motown music. Recently the city has received a revitalised downtown area with much more to offer. We were very proud and excited to be heading to Michigan again for the next US edition, and what will be the 8th AutoSens next May.

The Conference: What’s on?
AutoSens will take place over 3 days in 2020, with a wide range of educational, networking and hands-on experiences to give attendees maximum value from the event.
The Exhibition Floor
We were humbled once again by the support shown towards the event in Detroit. We were happy to see many returning exhibitors alongside plenty of new brands, who were all together in the new, expanded 4th floor exhibition area. With 38 exhibition stands, there was a comprehensive range of technology on show. From sensors to software, systems to simulation, hardware, testing and services there was plenty to see over the three days. Siemens PLM were the Lead Sponsor, they help thousands of companies make great products by optimizing their lifecycle processes, from planning and development through manufacturing and support. Other regulars included leading image sensor company ON Semiconductor, two-time AutoSens Awards winners Algolux, materials innovators who also sponsored the Demo Day on Tuesday, 3M, as well as many other organizations both small and large. Many of the exhibitors had demos on their stands, so it was the ideal chance to see the latest tech!
